REVIVING THE ECONOMY:

This is a difficult time in our economic history. Unemployment is on the rise, despite the so-called “stimulus” bills, and businesses struggle to stay afloat. As such, this is the worst possible time for government to increase taxes and spend us into unrecoverable debt. Instead the government needs to get out of the way and unleash the capitalist machine. To get the economy going we need across the board tax cuts on individuals and businesses … more

Tax Burden:

Clearly we the American people are over taxed. When you look at all the different taxes we pay it is clear that our government has grown out of control. Today most people are not even aware of all the different taxes they pay as some are even hidden. We pay federal, state and local income tax. We pay Social Security, Medicare, gas, sales, property, excise, luxury (restaurant, hotel, sporting/concert tickets), cigarette, alcohol, inheritance, toll road, and airport taxes to name a few. Is it any wonder people are struggling to get by and our economy cannot get going? And yet even with this great tax burden our government continues to spend our money at an alarming rate. We must shrink the size of government and make real cuts in government spending so we can decrease the tax burden on the American people.

Government Spending:

The issues with our economy and our tax burden are all rooted in the growth of government and reckless spending. Washington needs to realize the billions of dollars it throws around is not monopoly money but comes from hard working Americans. It is time for the federal government to get back to what it is constitutionally bound to do and leave the rest of the governing to the states and local level. We need to shrink the size of government at all levels and make real cuts in spending. If it were not so troubling, it would be humorous when members of congress claim to make cuts in spending by only increasing a fund 8% instead of 10%. The reckless spending leading to huge deficits and runaway debt is shortsighted and irresponsible at best. I will fight for balanced budgets and propose it be a prerequisite for … more

Health Care Reform:

I will fight to repeal the healthcare abomination just forced on the American people and instead provide real healthcare reform that will actually lower costs. I realize, now that it has been signed into law, it will take a significant effort and resolve to undo the damage. I also realize that very little can be done in Congress unless real conservatives can regain control. Hopefully it will be killed in the courts as unconstitutional but if not Congress will have to repeal it. I would propose, if Republicans can regain the Congress, that a repeal of the healthcare bill be part of the annual budget. Furthermore, if the President will not sign it … more

Strong Defense:

We must continue to maintain a strong national defense and provide security for all Americans. We must support our troops and allow them to do their job without worrying about what some lawyer or bureaucrat back home might think. War is ugly business and sometimes bad things happen. While we should use our technology to limit collateral damage and innocent casualties, our solders should not be held responsible should it happen during military operations. Also, the idea of having to interview potential threats before taking action or … more

Protecting the Unborn:

I am pro-life and will fight to protect the unborn. If society doesn’t respect life in the womb it won’t be long until there is a lack of respect for life out of the womb. Actually I think the evidence of this is already present as we see disturbing story after disturbing story of child abuse, neglect, or abandonment. I am sure you are as sick as I am when we see news stories of toddlers wondering the streets in the cold. This kind of behavior can only be exacerbated by disrespect for the unborn.

Gun Rights:

You notice I didn’t call it gun control. Growing up, hunting was the main way we put meat on the table and I want to make sure future generations can do the same. Clearly we have a constitutional right to own firearms and I will fight to protect our right. Through the years the liberal agenda has slowly been restricting these rights. They have made it harder and harder for law abiding citizens to buy and carry guns while criminals continue to operate outside the law. Political correctness has even begun to disarm the military. It is absolutely unforgivable and embarrassing that a terrorist could open fire on an Army base and have no armed solders around to stop him.

Marriage:

I believe marriage is defined as a union between one man and one woman before God. The institution of marriage existed long before the U.S government and it is not their place to redefine it.

Global Warming:

While the earth does appear to go through phases of cooling and warming, it is now abundantly clear, as I have always believed, that human kind’s impact on this is negligible. One of the most notable advocates for man-made global warming just recently admitted that the medieval times were warmer than today and they did not have nearly the population or industry we have. The whole man-made global warming hoax was manufactured to funnel millions of dollars to partisan organizations and justify further government control over our lives. To even consider putting additional carbon taxes on American industry today in this economy is absolute insanity. American industry is one of the cleanest in the world already and we don’t need additional restrictions to put us at a further disadvantage with the rest of the world. We could reduce our emissions significantly and have virtually no impact on global pollution when you consider how much pollution comes from China, Indian, and the like. It is time for truth and real science to prevail. Carbon dioxide is not a pollutant; it is needed by trees, plants, and algae to survive. We, human beings, emit carbon dioxide with every breath and if we are not careful the government will tax every exhale.

Education:

I believe the responsibility and funds for education should stay with the states. For too long the states have been held hostage by federal funds or worse been forced to implement federal policy without corresponding dollars. I would push to limit federal involvement in education up to and including abolishing the Department of Education. Programs like “No child left behind” unfortunately mean … more

Earmarks:

When most people think about earmarks they are normally referring to “pork barrel” line items, which are the worst kind of wasteful spending in a bill. An example of this is 3 million for bicycle racks in a wealthy D.C. area. Somewhere in our recent history congressmen and women have decided they must try and bring as much money back to their district as they can, even if it means funding ridiculous projects. While I will fight for our fair share of … more

Immigration:

I believe we must secure our borders for both national security and economic reasons. Immigration into this country should be an orderly and lawful process and those that break the law should not be rewarded. Illegal immigration is a big contributor to the problems we face today with the economy, health care, prison overcrowding, and education. It may seem to be a bigger issue for California or Texas but we must realize it is a national issue and affects all taxpayers. I believe a big part of our illegal immigration problem is due to … more

Energy Independence:

We must decrease our dependency on foreign sources of oil for the good of our future and our security. We must free up drilling opportunities within our country and make it easier to build new refineries. Today, we have the technology to do both in an environmentally responsible way. We also need to pursue other forms of energy, especially nuclear. France has proven you can produce nuclear power in a safe responsible way and today they produce over 80% of their power from nuclear. In fact, they often sell excess power to neighboring countries. While there is a place for wind, hydro, solar, coal, gas, and fuel cell energy to name a few, nuclear energy has the smallest footprint per megawatt produced and is one of the cleanest sources of energy available. By lowering our dependence on foreign energy we will no longer run the risk of price escalation by the likes of OPEC. Also, with sustained cheap energy we will give more buying power to the American consumer and keep the economy humming along.
