Who is PJ Steffen?
Well, for one thing I am not a lawyer or a politician looking for my next job. I’m the guy with the family at the next table in the restaurant, or sitting near you at church, or on the basketball court on Saturday mornings. I was born and raised in Indiana and have lived in your district for almost twenty years. It is where I live with my wife of twelve years and where we are raising our four children. I do not enter into this race lightly but only after much consideration and prayer. I can no longer sit on the sideline as our government degrades the foundation and principles that make this country great. I must do what I can to get us back on track.

Having never been in politics, why did I choose now to run for office?
I am gravely concerned about the future of our great country. Throughout my lifetime there have always been concerns for our nation’s future and security. The spread of communism, hostages held in Iran, the threat of nuclear war from the Soviet Union, gas shortages, terrorist attacks like that of September 11, 2001, the Gulf wars, and high unemployment to name a few. I came to realize that these threats, some more serious that others, were storms we could weather, rivers we could cross, tribulations we could overcome.

Now times are different. The threat to our nation’s future and our individual freedom does not come from outside but from our own government. The clouds that gather on the horizon are closer than ever and the problems we face require more than the ordinary measures. Right now the federal government is moving to take over 1/6th of our economy, the medical field, despite overwhelming opposition of the American people. This is after it took control of two thirds of the American auto industry and many of our largest financial institutions. They do not come as a thief in the night, but irreverently and defiantly forward with intentions clearly stated. I don’t want my children to grow up in a country where the government chooses their doctor, decides what care they will or will not have, and whether my parents, as they age, will live or die. I don’t want the same folks who devastated the mortgage industry, bankrupted social security, and indebted us to China to now ruin the most capable and talented medical industry in the world. Yes there are things we must do to make it more affordable but that does not include running it through some huge government bureaucracy. And that is not all they want to do. Now the democrats want to make their majority permanent by granting millions of illegal aliens amnesty and allowing them to vote. They also want to put new taxes on already suffering American industry and have your tax dollars pay for abortion on demand.

The principles I believe in, limited government, low taxes, a strong national defense, are not simply important for their own sake, but because they are the surest way to ensure freedom for us and for our children. As Ronald Reagan once said, “There’s a clear cause and effect here that is as neat and predictable as a law of physics: As government expands, liberty contracts.”

These principles are what I will fight for in Washington and I am the candidate with the fortitude to carry through. I have no political baggage and would not owe anyone for my election except the people of the 4th district. I was not raised to be a Washington insider and don’t know how to make deals with lobbyist. By contrast, I worked my way through college, working on a farm and in a factory. My wife and I have worked hard to build a home for our children, and I am ready to work hard for my friends and neighbors in this district and across the state. The people of the 4th district deserve a real choice of candidates and should not have to settle for the next heir apparent. As you research the candidates I believe you will find me to be the right choice come May 4th. I know it can be very frustrating trying to find specific information on the position of candidates. Instead of taking a firm stance the tendency is to state the standard rhetoric or say very little of substance at all. Over the campaign I will be specific about what I believe and my position on the issues. I will speak from the heart, from a core set of values, and will not need to wait for the results of any opinion poll. You can agree or disagree with me, but you will know where I stand. Please look for me over the next couple months as I visit your communities.

I cannot do this alone. I need your help. Together we can have a new beginning.

God bless,
PJ Steffen
